About Funkstown

Our Founding
Founded in 1767 by Jacob Funck, Funkstown is one of Washington County’s historic communities.
Originally planned as a village named Jerusalem, the town was laid out along Antietam Creek with 177 lots. Early residents often referred to the community as Funck’s Jerusalem Town, a name that later evolved into Funkstown.
The town became part of Washington County in 1776 and has continued to preserve its small-town character, historic charm, and strong sense of community. Today, Funkstown remains a welcoming town where history, local business, and community traditions all play an important role.
Funkstown’s Historic Town Center is home to a variety of local businesses, shops, restaurants, and services. Visitors can find antique shops, home décor, beauty salons, hobby and knitting supplies, local dining, and other small businesses throughout town.
With more than 30 businesses located in and around Funkstown, residents and visitors can enjoy a mix of local shopping, services, and dining while experiencing the character of a historic Maryland town.

Olde Tyme Christmas
Held on the second Friday in December, this holiday event brings the community together for seasonal activities and family entertainment.
Both events are open to the public and have grown over the years into popular community traditions in Washington County.
